Excitement Surrounds Seahawks’ Victory
Sam Darnold’s most enthusiastic supporter couldn’t help but share her joy.
Saturday marked a significant moment as the Seahawks capped off their regular season by clinching the NFC West title and securing the top playoff position. Darnold’s fiancée, Katie Hoefnagle, took to her Instagram Story to reflect on the exhilarating experience following the team’s 13-3 triumph against the 49ers in Santa Clara.
“And good night everyone,” she captioned a clip showing the Seahawks’ bench emerging onto the field at Levi’s Stadium, greeted by a chorus of cheers from the crowd.
Darnold, in his first season with the Seahawks, completed 20 out of 26 passes for 198 yards, while Seattle’s defense effectively neutralized San Francisco’s strong offense, notably limiting star running back Christian McCaffrey to merely 23 yards.
“I like the way we’re heading into the game,” remarked Seahawks’ second-year coach Mike McDonald. “I felt like we truly set the tone.”
The NFC’s route to the upcoming Super Bowl now runs through Seattle, marking the first time since 2020 that the team has dominated the NFC West.
“It’s massive to play in front of the 12th Man,” Darnold stated regarding Seattle’s Lumen Field. “It’s a different atmosphere compared to other stadiums. The noise makes it tough on opposing offenses. I’m really excited to be home for the playoffs.”
This victory secured the NFC West and the top seed for Darnold and the Seahawks.
Darnold, aged 28, is hitting the playoffs for the second consecutive year after previously leading the Vikings to a solid 14-3 record and reaching the postseason in 2024, although they lost to the Rams in the wild card round.
Following that disappointing exit, he signed a three-year, $150 million deal with the Seahawks last March. Darnold’s career has seen a resurgence after being drafted third overall by the Jets in 2018, and Hoefnagle has been by his side throughout this journey.
In February 2025, she expressed her pride on Instagram: “I’m proud of all you’ve achieved, but more so of the person you are and will always be. Thank you, Sam, for allowing me to be part of your path. Being with you is a blessing I’ll forever cherish. LFG #14!”
The couple got engaged last summer.
With a bye secured, the Seahawks will take the field again in the divisional round later this month.
