Actor Sam Elliott, known for his deep, resonant voice, is calling on Americans to support Vice President Harris' presidential bid in a new ad. release The Lincoln Project Monday.
The minute-long ad, narrated by a famous Western actor, is titled “Choose Change,” and reflects Harris' attempt to present herself as a candidate of change in the election campaign, despite being a member of the current administration. Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump is also running as the candidate of change.
The ad features themes of masculinity and nature, and supports the Democratic candidate.
“I can't believe I'm having this conversation again. Let's get started. You know who the candidates are,” Elliott said. videoA photo of a serene American landscape cuts to a depiction of an American farmer walking along a dirt path among crops.
“You know what the problem is,” Elliott said. “You have a candidate promising a divided America full of lies and hate. And you have a candidate calling for change. Kamala Harris has a lot more courage, honor and guts than this guy.”
“So you decide: Are you really going to go back down the same broken paths? Or are you going to move forward toward hope, toward freedom, toward change?”
The video showed three images from Trump's presidency side-by-side: the first showed rioters holding “TRUMP” flags while attacking police officers at the Capitol on January 6, 2021; The second photo is of Trump. The first shows him holding up a Bible in front of a church after warning of military action against protesters, while the third shows men marching with torches at what appears to be a “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.
After citing Harris's assertion of a “strong middle class,” Elliott explicitly brought up gender, calling on skeptics to overcome their reservations about a woman president.
“There is hope for change and now is the time for change. What are you waiting for? If it's a women's issue, it's time to get over it. Now is the time for hope and change,” Elliott said.
“It's time for us as men to vote for women,” he continued.
The comment is notable because Harris has largely avoided discussing her race or gender during the campaign.
