Saturday night's NFC Divisional Round game is commander of washington and detroit lions This is shaping up to be a great contest. After the Commanders took a 10-7 lead, the Lions stormed down the field midway through the second quarter and regained the lead at 14-10.
But how they got to the end zone is worth a second look.
With the Lions facing first and goal deep in Washington's territory, Ben Johnson called for a jumbo package to bring in Dan Skipper as an additional offensive lineman for Detroit. But Johnson, as he is known to do with Skipper in games, called for a pass since Skipper already had a touchdown reception during the season. In this play, Skipper was on the play as one of Jared Goff's primary options, running a crossing route from left to right.
But Washington was ready and the skipper covered the play well. Goff selected his second option, tight end Sam LaPorta, and made an incredible diving catch in the end zone.
As Tom Brady pointed out in the broadcast booth, Skipper was actually double-covered during the play, surrounded by linebackers Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luv. That forced Goff to look for Laporta along the back of the end zone.
Let's take another look at Laporta's amazing catch.
This game, and the NFL playoffs as a whole, has a long way to go. But Laporta's catch could be a postseason catch.
