LSU Tigers to Add Transfer Quarterback Sam Leavitt

It appears that LSU Tigers football is gearing up for a significant transfer this Monday, marking the start of Lane Kiffin’s term as head coach.

Reports indicate that Sam Leavitt, formerly with Arizona State, is set to join the Tigers for the next season in Baton Rouge. He’s considered one of the prime quarterbacks available in the transfer portal, and he has already made visits to schools like Miami and Kentucky as part of his decision-making process.

LSU recently saw Garrett Nussmeier graduate after the 2025 season, while Michael Van Buren transferred to South Florida following Kiffin’s arrival from Ole Miss. Additionally, it seems LSU had its sights on Desmond Williams Jr. from Washington, but ultimately chose to stay committed to the Huskies.

Leavitt, who transferred from Michigan State to Arizona State after his freshman season in 2023, quickly became a standout player under coach Kenny Dillingham. He helped lead the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff in 2024, though they faced a tough loss to Texas in the first round.

In 2025, after playing just seven games, Leavitt racked up 1,628 passing yards and 10 touchdowns, but unfortunately, a foot injury led to season-ending surgery.

Kenny Dillingham had previously praised Leavitt when he entered the transfer portal. He referred to him as a “smart, talented player” who would surely succeed at his next destination.

Last season, LSU had high hopes but only managed to snag seven wins, leading to the mid-season firing of coach Brian Kelly. Kiffin, on the other hand, committed to LSU after Ole Miss triumphed in a game against their rivals, Mississippi State, securing a place in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
