Samantha Jones appears in Season 3 of ‘And Just Like That’

Samantha Jones Makes a Return

Samantha Jones is back in the spotlight. In the latest episode of “And Just Like That,” Season 3, Kim Cattrall’s character resurfaces, albeit through text messages rather than in person.

In the episode titled “Under the Table,” we find Carrie (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) in a bit of a conflict with her downstairs neighbor, Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake). As the plot unfolds, it turns out Duncan is a biographer working on a new book.

Cattrall, who is 68 years old, doesn’t appear on-screen, but Carrie receives a text from Samantha asking, “What do you know about Duncan Reeves?” Samantha’s reply is lively: “They say he’s so much fun. Why?”

Carrie then explains, “He lives under me.” The playful banter continues with Samantha quipping, “I wish he was under me.”

Carrie later shares this tidbit with Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), saying, “Hey, Samantha says Duncan Reeves is known to be fun.” Miranda notes, “Well, he’s like 6’5, so that’s hers, so it’s fun.”

Originally portrayed by Cattrall from 1998 to 2004, Samantha was a beloved character whose adventures with Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) captured the ups and downs of dating in New York City.

While Cattrall hasn’t been part of the spinoff, her absence has often been linked to rumors of tension between her and SJP, which Sarah Jessica Parker has denied. In the storyline, Samantha and Carrie became distant after Carrie let go of Samantha as her publicist, eventually prompting Samantha to move to London.

Cattrall did make a brief appearance in Season 2 of the spinoff. Despite the chatter about her relationship with Parker, she stated in a recent interview that she has come to terms with her legacy in the show. “I created a great character I loved, and I put a lot of love into it,” she said. “If I’m remembered just for that, it’s really okay.”

Meanwhile, another storyline in the current episode involves Charlotte discovering that her husband, Harry (Evan Handler), has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Charlotte expresses her relief that the diagnosis wasn’t worse, saying, “I knew something was going to happen, right? At least I didn’t have to fool him or anything like that, right? Oh, God – cancer. That’s how Charlotte feels, and of course, everyone feels.”

“And Just That Way” airs Thursday at 9 PM ET.
