Hurricane Helen, which made landfall in Florida on September 26, is the second deadliest storm to hit the continental United States since 2000, with 2005's Hurricane Katrina remaining the deadliest.
There have been 95 confirmed storm-related deaths in the Tar Heel State, including 42 in Buncombe County alone, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
