Samsung overtakes Apple for top phonemaker spot: report

According to the report, Apple’s shipments fell by about 10% and it lost its position as the world’s top mobile phone maker to Samsung in the first quarter of 2024.

Samsung had a 20.8% market share from January to March, followed by Apple with 17.3% and China-based Xiaomi with 14.1%, Reuters reported, citing data from research firm IDC. It became.

Samsung recently launched its Galaxy S24 series of phones and shipped more than 60 million devices in the first quarter, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, Apple’s iPhone shipments remained at 50.1 million units, down from 55.4 million units shipped in the same period last year, the news agency said, citing IDC.

Overall, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8% to 289.4 million units in the first quarter of 2024, the report added.

It also announced that shipments of Apple mobile phones in China in the fourth quarter of 2023 decreased by 2.1% compared to the same period last year.

The news comes as Apple lays off 614 employees in California following reports earlier this year that it was abandoning efforts to build electric cars.
