San Antonio police officers shot during ‘suicide-in-progress’ call

Four San Antonio police officers were shot and killed Wednesday night while responding to a call of a “suicide in progress,” with a heavy police presence near an apartment complex trying to detain the suspects, authorities said. .

San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus said none of the officers' injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

He described the suspect as a man in his 40s and said the first call to police came from a family member.

More than an hour after the shooting, McManus said SWAT was in place in the Stone Oak area and efforts were continuing to remove the suspect.

“We are currently formulating a plan to get the perpetrators away,” he said.

Four police officers with four to eight years of experience were taken to the hospital, McManus said.

The co-pilot was shot in the lower leg and another officer was shot in the upper body, McManus said. There was no mention of other police officers' injuries.
