A former San Francisco firefighter is speaking out about a 2022 incident in which he was allegedly assaulted by a colleague with a tool.

Gabriel Singh, who was allegedly attacked with a fire hydrant wrench by firefighter Robert Muhammad, said he filed a federal civil rights lawsuit to find out why he lost his job and the suspect got it, ABC 7 reported. report On Thursday.

In 2021, Muhammad was going through a family crisis and his fellow firefighters were concerned about the situation, and they offered to help, but Muhammad declined.

A few days later, Muhammad showed up to Singh’s Oakland home with a fire hydrant wrench and confronted him outside, ABC 7 reports.

“I heard someone say, ‘Are you going to tell me? Are you going to tell me who told you?'” Singh said. “I turned around and said, ‘Robert, what are you doing here?’ He said, ‘Who are you guarding?’ I said, ‘I forget,’ and he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a big brass wrench and started swinging it at my head.”

During the incident, Singh suffered a broken arm and a concussion. A neighbour confronted Muhammad with a handgun and broke up the argument.

Later Muhammad Pleaded The two men were found not guilty of felony assault with a deadly weapon, ABC 7 reported in May 2022. The outlet reported that the two men had known each other for more than 20 years.

According to Singh’s lawsuit, some of his superiors instructed him to drop the charges and not to cooperate with police in the case.

“The lawsuit alleges that ‘from the beginning, they treated Mr. Singh with shocking prejudice and Mr. Mohammed with inexplicable favoritism because they recognized one difference: Mr. Singh is Asian and Mr. Mohammed is black.'” The defendants have denied all allegations in their defenses,” according to a recent ABC7 article.

The media reported that Singh’s salary and health insurance were cancelled after he refused to comply with questioning by the fire department.
