Chaos Erupts at Red Bull F1 Event in San Francisco Suburb
Residents in a San Francisco suburb are expressing their anger after a recent Red Bull F1 event caused extensive damage to local streets and properties.
One local shared on Reddit: “People were climbing on houses, standing on parked cars, and destroying trees and bushes.” They also mentioned hundreds of Lime scooters abandoned in walkways, obstructing pedestrian traffic and forcing individuals to walk on the street. Additionally, there were reports of blocked driveways and even instances of public urination on homes and bushes.
“It was an absolute mess with poor crowd control,” they added, characterizing the situation as “brutal” and poorly orchestrated.
The event, referred to as the Red Bull Showrun, took place on Saturday and drew at least 40,000 attendees, leaving local residents to manage the aftermath.
Some attendees described the experience as “chaotic” and “badly executed.”
“This is someone’s property, someone’s home,” commented a resident of Marina Boulevard, opting to remain anonymous. “People are understandably upset,” she said.
The streets were littered with broken branches and damaged flower pots, and there were reports of compromised garage doors and windows.
A video posted on Instagram captured the scene, showing thousands queuing and areas getting congested. People were seen climbing over rocks in the marina to escape the crowd.
Concerns about inadequate police presence were raised by several attendees. One Reddit user criticized the planning, stating they underestimated attendance and failed to provide enough security. “Why weren’t there any bleachers?” they questioned.
With only two entrances and exits available at Marina Green, flows of people quickly became bottlenecked.
One attendee recounted an experience of trying to exit near Fort Mason. They found themselves caught as waves of incoming and outgoing crowds collided, forcing some to climb onto rocks to get free.
At one point, chaos ensued as attendees began calling out “turn around” to alleviate the congestion, while others were escorted away from crowded spots near the Palace of Arts.
Local news outlets reached out to the mayor’s office, who was seen enjoying the event in F1 gear but received no comments from the authorities, as they deferred inquiries to Red Bull, which did not reply.
