San Francisco Health Department Reportedly Hires ‘Weight Stigma’ Consultant

The San Francisco Department of Public Health has reportedly hired a “fat acceptance” and “body positivity” activist as a “weight bias” consultant.

Virgie Tovar, social media influencer known for “Lose the Hate, Not the Weight” TED talk and her books, including you have the right to keep gaining weighthe said on Tuesday. She posted on Instagram that she was “incredibly proud to be able to contribute” to the city of San Francisco.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to contribute in this way to the city I have called home for almost 20 years. It is my greatest hope and belief that this will be the future,” Tovar wrote.

Her other works include inviting readers to “How to host Thanksgiving, size included” and her Substack Blog Here she talks about “body positivity/fat acceptance/size inclusivity.”

Tovar also models plus-size clothing to combat “weight bias” and “weight discrimination.”

It appears that the San Francisco Department of Health has not yet approved the consulting partnership.
