The promotion of wearing masks has begun again.
San Francisco health officials are urging residents to wear masks in some indoor areas.
“Make this a healthy summer for yourself and others. Due to the spread of COVID-19, please consider wearing a tight-fitting mask in crowded indoor spaces,” the tweet read.

San Francisco health officials are urging residents to consider wearing masks in some locations as a summer surge in COVID-19 cases gathers steam.
On Friday, the city’s public health department took to social media to advise, “Make this summer healthy for yourself and others. Due to the spread of COVID-19, consider wearing a tight-fitting mask in crowded indoor spaces.”
It has been more than a year since major medical organizations recommended wearing masks for people who are not at high risk outside of medical settings. Most mask mandates were lifted more than three years ago, and it is highly unlikely that they will be reinstated for the general public.

California is one of a handful of states with “very high” wastewater levels of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, according to CDC data, and this is backed up by the Chronicle’s tracking system, which shows high levels at most Bay Area wastewater treatment plants, including two facilities in San Francisco.
