Lurie's work-to-work orders coincide with plans to revitalize San Francisco. He cleaned San Francisco streets, increased public safety, tackled the urban drug crisis, built homes, cut off corrupt bureaucracy, and campaigned “back to downtown.”

Lurie announced on Tuesday a contract with the Board of Supervisors on the law that would convert empty offices in downtown San Francisco into new homes. The act will allow the city to cut down on red tape regulations that make it difficult for the city to launch a “office-to-hershing conversion project.”

“Transforming vacant offices into residential areas will help drive downtown recovery while creating new homes for San Franciscans,” Lurie said. “Thanks to a new era of collaboration at City Hall, this is an advantage for both our city, and that's why we can create a 24/7 downtown that benefits both our residents and our businesses.”

The mayor said the new law will reduce the development costs of converting office spaces and extend the application deadline for programs that will facilitate zoning and building permits.
