49ers player shot during attempted robbery

The San Francisco police sergeant recalled the moment shots rang out and he ran to the scene to find 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.
Sergeant Joel Harrell didn't know at the time that he was helping an NFL player when Pearsall was shot and wounded during a robbery attempt in the city's Union Square neighborhood when a 17-year-old boy tried to grab the Rolex from his wrist.

After Harrell and Pearsall learned he was a 49ers football player, they applied pressure to the wound and he asked Harrell if he was going to die, the report said. San Francisco Chronicle.
“You're strong,” she told The Chronicle of Pearsall in a story published Monday. “Just focus on your breathing.”
She added, “And he listened and he calmed down, which is what I wanted for him.”
The bullet that struck Pearsall penetrated his chest and exited through his back. He was released from the hospital within 24 hours of the shooting.

Pearsall's mother, Erin, wrote on Facebook that her son was lucky to be alive.
“An update on my son,” she began. “First of all I want to thank God for protecting my son. He is very lucky God protected him. He was shot in the chest and the bullet exited through his back. Thank God it spared his vital organs.”
“My son is doing well now,” she added. “Life is truly precious. Please love each other. My son was saved today by the grace of God. Please pray for my baby.”

Pearsall was placed on the non-football injured list to start the season.
