Double Shooting in Downtown San Jose

Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck downtown San Jose as two men were shot and killed just hours before nearby Super Bowl celebrations were set to begin. This marks California City’s second and third murders of the year, adding to the already troubling violence.

These deaths occurred shortly after two brothers were arrested in connection with the earlier shooting death of a 17-year-old boy—San Jose’s first homicide of 2026.

According to reports, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio around 2:20 a.m. after gunfire was reported. Police in the vicinity arrived quickly to find the victims on the ground with gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, both men were pronounced dead on the scene.

Now, homicide detectives are working diligently to understand what prompted this deadly incident. Authorities, however, have labeled it as an “isolated incident,” leaving the motive unclear, and there’s no word yet on whether any suspects are in custody.

The identities of the victims have not been released pending family notifications by the Santa Clara County Coroner.

Regarding the earlier murder, significant progress has been made, with brothers Jose Flores, 47, and John Flores, 43, being arrested this past Tuesday. They are linked to the fatal shooting of a teenager in a Winchester Boulevard parking lot on February 2. The boy had been pursued by the suspects and shot around 4:48 p.m. He later died in the hospital.

Detectives utilized license plate readers and surveillance footage to track the suspects to their homes in San Jose and Santa Clara. Both men are now in custody at Santa Clara County Jail facing murder charges.

It’s worth noting that downtown San Jose, where both shootings took place, is only about a 20-minute drive to Levi’s Stadium, the site of Super Bowl LX.
