If you're wondering why not one, not two, but five NCAA women's volleyball teams refused to play San Jose State University (SJSU) because of the presence of transgender athlete Blair Fleming. Here's why:
SJSU defeated New Mexico 3-1 in a recent game, led by transgender star Blair Fleming's 18 kills. One of those kills in particular reminded people why five teams refused to take action against this male player.
In the third set, with SJSU leading 13-11, the Spartans spiked Fleming and nearly took down the New Mexico libero.
This play caused a strong reaction in X.
Fleming's presence caused four teams to forfeit their games against SJSU, with a fifth team, Nevada, voting players to forfeit in defiance of the school's wishes to play the game.
After the school ignored the players' vote and insisted on continuing the game, Wolfpack captain Thea Lilly insisted the players were “honest” and would stand their ground.
“We know what our team is trying to do and we're going to stay honest,” Lilly said. “I think this is the toughest thing our team has ever gone through, but I have so many brave young women behind me and I’m really happy to be the captain of this team.”
