Sanders Urges Democrats to Reassess Their Values

Senator Bernie Sanders expressed on “The View” that the Democratic Party must make some “fundamental decisions” regarding its identity and values.

Co-host Alyssa Farrar Griffin challenged Sanders about the party’s low approval ratings and the impact of his “Fight the Oligarchies” tour.

“I think Democrats need to get back to basics,” he stated. “Trump managed to attract many working-class voters, not because they wanted tax breaks for the wealthy. It’s more about how they viewed the Democratic Party and where it stands.” He emphasized that the party historically aligned itself with the working class.

Sanders insisted that Democrats should reconnect with their roots: “We need to acknowledge our investor friends, but we must firmly stand with the working people of this nation.” He pointed out that many Americans are living from paycheck to paycheck.

“People are struggling to afford healthcare, childcare, and housing. Some can barely provide quality food for their families,” he added. “Democrats must declare that healthcare is a human right, not a privilege.”

Additionally, Sanders addressed the recent “No Kings” protests which he regarded as unprecedented. “These protests weren’t just in major cities; they spread to small towns as well. I believe there were around 26,000 rallies, with a remarkable number of people collectively rejecting Trumpism in a single day,” he noted, expressing pride in the movement.

He also touched on the need for Vice President Kamala Harris to shift focus toward working-class issues rather than solely on topics like abortion.

During his speech at a protest in Washington, D.C., Sanders described the gathering as a “Love America rally.”
