Sanders: Trump should 'tone it down'

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), an independent, said Wednesday that former President Trump should “tone it down.” Interview On MSNBC, post President Trump blamed the Democratic Party's rhetoric for the political violence.

“My suggestion to Donald Trump is to tone it down. Discuss the issues, express your honest disagreements, but stop calling people bad names and insinuating they're communists,” Sanders said in the interview.

“This Communist Left wing rhetoric is getting the bullets flying and it's only going to get worse!” Trump wrote in a post on Monday.

Trump's post came after a second assassination attempt was made on the former president on Sunday while he was golfing in Florida.

Trump has branded Harris a communist and called her “Comrade Kamala.”

Sanders added that political violence is “unacceptable.”

“It goes without saying, but I think all Americans understand that violence of any form is not tolerated in America, no matter what your political views are. We have differences of opinion, but we don't express them in violent ways. End of debate,” Sanders said.

Sanders also said he believed Trump's rhetoric was the “ugliest” of any president or presidential candidate.

“He called Kamala Harris a 'communist,'” Sanders added. “That's just ridiculous.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
