Saquon Barkley responds to his critics about the NFL’s tush push.

NFL’s Tush Push Play Survives Proposal to Ban It

In a recent NFL owners’ meeting, the popular “Tush Push” play, famously utilized by the Philadelphia Eagles, will continue to be part of the game—at least for one more season, as owners rejected a proposal aimed at banning it after 2025. This strategic move, primarily designed to help the quarterback gain the necessary momentum for a first down or touchdown, has proven to be quite successful. The Green Bay Packers, despite their attempts, couldn’t sway the decision.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley shared his thoughts on the objections surrounding the play. During a podcast with teammates, he expressed, “Honestly, I think it’s just soft. It’s not something unique to us; we just have a top-tier offensive line, which helps.” He pointed out that the play isn’t exclusive to the Eagles, mentioning how other quarterbacks, like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, have struggled with it.

Moreover, Barkley challenged the narrative that the Tush Push poses a safety risk to players. The proposal aimed to ban offensive players from pushing teammates immediately after the snap but was ultimately rejected. If it had passed, it would have imposed penalties on those violating this new rule.
