Saquon Barkley shares a strong opinion on the Eagles’ significance in NFL history

Saquon Barkley Reflects on Eagles’ Historic Season

It’s fair to say that Saquon Barkley believes the recently crowned Super Bowl champions, the Eagles, have cemented their place in NFL history.

When posed with the question of where the 2024 Eagles rank among the greats, Barkley confidently declared them the best ever.

“Looking back at our performance last year, I mean, sure, we try not to dwell on past seasons, but I think it’s safe to say last year’s team was the strongest we’ve seen,” Barkley mentioned on Thursday’s episode of the “Exciting Mics” podcast.

Barkley recalled the Eagles’ somewhat shaky start, stating, “We began at 2-2 and took a tough loss to Washington; that one stung.” There was a sense of disbelief when reflecting on their season, as he emphasized how dominant they became post those first four games.

Despite this rocky beginning, the Eagles tied for the third-best record in the NFL, wrapping up the regular season with a solid 14-3 performance.

After a bit of a bumpy ride at the beginning of the 2024 season, they rebounded impressively, ending up with a 10-1 record and significantly outscoring their rivals, 329 to 188, throughout the year.

In the postseason, they powered through, triumphing over the reigning champions in the 2025 Super Bowl with a resounding 40-22 victory.

“I really think we all just bought into the vision,” Barkley said. “You can feel the external pressure and expectations, but our focus was solely on winning. The combination of talent on the team and our coaching stood out, making it tough for others to compete.” He added, “In the playoffs, especially during the Super Bowl, it might’ve looked close on the scoreboard, but honestly, it wasn’t that competitive.”

Reflecting on their achievements, he mused, “In 10 to 15 years, I think we’ll look back and appreciate those glory days more.” Interestingly, Barkley highlighted his own impressive season, rushing for 2,005 yards last year.

During the podcast, Barkley also addressed recent attempts by some owners to ban the Eagles’ controversial “tush push” play.

Though 22 teams voted in favor of the ban, it ultimately didn’t pass. “Honestly, I find that push to be a bit soft,” he commented. “It’s not a unique play; any team can run it. We’ve just got one of the most robust offensive lines in the league.” He tapped into examples like Josh Allen from the Bills and Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, who haven’t had similar success, pointing out that it’s not exclusive to Philadelphia.
