Texas Law Upheld Against Drag Queen Performances in Front of Children

The Vice President of the Texas Family Project and host on Blaze TV, Sarah Gonzalez, played a significant role in drafting legislation that has now been upheld by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. This law specifically bans drag queens and other adults from engaging in sexual performances in the presence of children.

“This law has been embroiled in legal battles for years, and we’ve eagerly awaited this outcome,” Gonzalez remarked, visibly pleased. “In Texas, provocative dancing in front of minors is now illegal.” She emphasized the effort put into uncovering inappropriate all-ages events occurring throughout Texas, stating, “The evidence we gathered helped raise awareness and contributed to the bill’s passing.” She mentioned working closely with lawmakers to finalize the bill’s wording, making it a deeply personal issue for her.

Gonzalez has encountered ongoing resistance from drag queens whom she has referred to as “groomers” in Texas courts regarding this law. “People often assume Texas is a conservative stronghold. But really, there were numerous all-ages shows happening statewide,” she said.

In one notable incident at an all-ages performance, Gonzalez questioned a mother who was attending with her child about whether she found the show appropriate. The mother’s response was somewhat dismissive: “I’m not very conservative, but it’s pretty much the same as Disney.” She seemed to draw comparisons to the entertainment giant, suggesting that there was little difference.

The performances themselves featured drag queens with exaggerated body parts, engaging in suggestive antics and encouraging adults in the crowd to interact inappropriately. In another concerning instance, two performers simulated sexual acts on stage. When Gonzalez pointed this out to a mother whose 12-year-old daughter was present, the mother shrugged it off, stating, “She sees simulated sex at school regularly.” Gonzalez replied, incredulously, “What school has that as part of the curriculum? That’s not right for kids,” expressing her disapproval.

At a different event, an elderly woman was seen giving money to a child to pass along to the performers shortly before a drag queen distributed sex toys aimed at “all genders.” Gonzalez sarcastically questioned the appropriateness of such activities, saying, “Isn’t this just fantastic content for our kids?”

Following the passage of the law – even before it faced any courtroom challenges – many performers contemplated leaving Texas altogether. “They said, ‘We’re done. We’re not staying here anymore,’” Gonzalez recounted, adding, “And honestly, good riddance.”
