Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Harris can't get through interview without 'babysitter'

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), referring to an upcoming interview on CNN with vice presidential candidate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D), said Democrats believe VP Harris “needs a babysitter.”

“It's clear that her team and her party believe she needs a babysitter,” Sanders said on “Fox & Friends.” Outlet “That's why they're having the running mate on stage with her,” Ainsley Earhardt said Wednesday, “so that if things play out like the footage we just saw, he can come on and answer questions in her place, as he has done in previous interviews.”

CNN recently announced that Harris and Waltz will take part in a joint interview with the network's Dana Bash to air Thursday. The interview comes after Harris' rise to the top of the Democratic presidential field has led to growing demand for her to be interviewed.

“This is not a tough interview. This is something that will air on CNN,” Sanders said.

Asked for comment, a CNN spokesperson told The Hill, “Dana Bash is a respected veteran journalist who has covered Washington politics and politicians for more than 30 years.”

“She has extensive experience interviewing major politicians and is uniquely qualified to interview both Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. We look forward to their conversation,” the spokesperson added.

Harris has garnered considerable enthusiasm and energy within the party as she has risen to the top of the Democratic field and is catching up with former President Trump in the polls, holding a 4.3-point lead over him in The Hill/Decision Desk average of national polls.

Trump and Harris are scheduled to face off in a debate on ABC News in the coming weeks, and after recently questioning whether he would take part in the debate, Trump said on Tuesday that he had “reached an agreement,” presumably with the Harris campaign.

“I have also been assured by ABC that the debate will be 'fair and impartial' and that no questions will be given to either side in advance,” Trump said.

The Hill has reached out to the Harris campaign.
