SJP Responds to Criticism of “And Just Like That”

In a recent interview with the New York Times following the finale of the “And Just Like That” series, Sarah Jessica Parker shared her thoughts on the backlash against the reboot of “Sex and the City.”

She mentioned, “I don’t really think there’s a constitution that spends much time dwelling on it. We’ve always put in a lot of effort to tell engaging and authentic stories.”

Parker, 60, continued on a candid note, saying, “I don’t care too much, honestly. The success of the show and its ability to resonate with the audience is what matters most to me.”

The story of Carrie Bradshaw began in 1998 with “Sex and the City” and wrapped up last week with the season 3 finale of “AJLT.”

Although the finale received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, Parker expressed satisfaction with how Carrie’s journey concluded. “I feel good about her. I think she’s in a good place,” she stated.

Earlier, in an interview with People, Parker explained that she doesn’t always pay attention to fans’ online responses regarding the HBO series. “You’re likely to come across comments that might sting a bit,” she admitted. “People will always have a mix of emotions, and that’s part of being in a community. It’s a sign of engagement.”

“I often find myself navigating through this world of emotions and reactions,” Parker added. “Being a little sneaky while observing certain comments is part of the experience.”

On August 1, Parker and showrunner Michael Patrick King officially announced the conclusion of “AJLT” after three seasons, just two weeks ahead of the series finale.

Molly Rogers, the costume designer who worked on both “AJLT” and the original “Sex and the City,” discussed the end of the franchise. “I never got a formal notice from HBO, like an email saying it was over,” she noted. “It feels a bit surreal to keep it all under wraps.”

“And Just Like That” is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
