Sarah Paulson Remembers Diane Keaton at Tribute

Sarah Paulson recently shared a heartfelt message she received from Diane Keaton before Keaton’s passing at 79.

The star of ‘American Horror Story’ took a moment during an event organized by The Hollywood Reporter to reflect on the messages she had saved, noting how special they were, and pointed out that everyone who received a message from Keaton seemed to treasure them.

During her speech, Paulson read one voicemail where Keaton humorously complained, “Sarah, I hate your phone. It’s always full, and I can’t leave a message. You idiot, what’s your address? Go home, you disgusting idiot. Diane.” Keaton expressed her curiosity about Paulson’s life, saying how she wanted updates on everything and lamented about an email that had mysteriously vanished.

Keaton, who passed in October, also instructed, “[Paulson’s] Type ‘Friend’ in the next message.”

Paulson described Keaton’s way of communicating as truly unique, which resonated strongly with her audience. “Everyone who received a message from her saved it,” she mentioned, reflecting on the warmth of their friendship.

In another message, Keaton expressed her eagerness to get updates, affectionately revealing her concern about Paulson’s life, her love, and even her “shitty house.” She signed off with a reminder of their friendship.

As her tribute continued, Paulson read an email she had wished to send to Keaton. She began with an apology about the full voicemail box and shared how much she had felt the absence of Keaton. “I want to tell you how the world lost its mind with grief the day you died,” Paulson said emotionally, expressing how deeply she would miss her friend.

Paulson concluded her speech with heartfelt gratitude, emphasizing how thankful she was for their friendship. She met Keaton in 1999 while working together on “The Other Sister,” forming a bond that evidently meant the world to her.

Keaton died from pneumonia, leaving behind her two children, Dexter and Duke. Following the announcement of her passing on October 11, Paulson was seen visibly upset outside Keaton’s home.

In the days that followed, she spoke about her feelings during the premiere of “All’s Fair,” calling Keaton “the luckiest” and a “wonderful human being.” The loss weighed heavily on her, as she struggled to articulate the profound sadness she felt.

Goldie Hawn also shared her touches tribute, becoming emotional while speaking about Keaton. “People like that should never die,” she remarked, celebrating the vibrancy Keaton brought into the lives of those around her.
