Sam Altman welcomed by Satya Nadella as CEO of Windows Research Group

Former Open AI CEO Sam Altman and former president Greg Brockman will join Microsoft to lead a new team conducting advanced research in artificial intelligence, Satya Nadella announced today. This comes just days after Altman was fired from OpenAI, the company he co-founded.
Announcing Microsoft’s move, Nadella posted on X: “We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and confident in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and our ability to continue to support our customers. We look forward to getting to know and working with Emmet Shea and OAI’s new management team.”

Nadella’s post was shared by Altman with the message, “The mission continues.”
Nadella added that Altman will join the research group as CEO. “We are very excited to have Sam join us as CEO of this new group as we set a new pace of innovation. We’ve learned a lot over the years about how to give people the power they deserve, and I look forward to helping GitHub, Mojang Studios, Microsoft, including LinkedIn, and you all do the same.” The mission continues,” he said in response to the post.
Altman, the face of OpenAI, the company behind the revolutionary ChatGPT, was fired Friday for a call on Google Meet, according to a post by Brockman on X. The next day, Brockman was told in another Google Meet call that he would be removed from the board but would remain in his role because he was “an integral part of the company.”
Brockman said in his post that both decisions were communicated to him by Ilya Satskeva, co-founder and chief scientist at OpenAI.
“Sam and I are shocked and saddened by what the board did today,” Brockman said in a post Saturday. He announced that he had resigned from the company.
A statement from Microsoft-backed OpenAI said Altman’s resignation was “the result of a deliberative process by the board of directors that determined that Mr. Altman has not consistently been candid in his communications with the board, which has hindered the board’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities.” We have come to the conclusion that.” “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue to lead OpenAI,” the statement added.
