Source Gardner is eager to get competitive if the Jets take on their former quarterback Aaron Rodgers in week one, potentially waving a Terrible Towel should they win.
Rodgers has been practicing with the Steelers this week, setting the stage for an exciting season opener that features both him and future Hall of Famers.
“I think it’s fun,” Gardner expressed. “It’s a competitive atmosphere. I know Aaron is someone who loves to compete. They’ve got DK [Metcalf] on their team too. It’s shaping up to be a pretty good game.”
Gardner took home a cheesehead after the Jets’ victory over the Rodgers-led Packers at Lambeau Field in 2022. The two developed a friendship over their two seasons as teammates, filled with a mentor-student dynamic.
If the Jets win again, will Gardner have a little trick up his sleeve?
“That’s true,” he laughed, suggesting he might need to navigate carefully if the game were in Pittsburgh. “But since we’re at home, it should be in our favor.”
Glenn, when asked about Rodgers indirectly, smiled and avoided using the quarterback’s name. He noted that every game is noisy because of the stakes involved. “I don’t really focus on who the opponent is; it just happens to be Pittsburgh. They have a lot of talented players.”
The 2028 Summer Olympics will feature 5-on-5 flag football. Each NFL team is allowed to send one player as part of a 10-member roster.
“I’m definitely interested in that,” Gardner said. “It’s a big opportunity to represent my country. Every time the Olympics roll around, I think about it.”
He joked that participating in the Olympics would be a refreshing break from the preseason grind. “I think it could be a nice distraction during training camp,” he added. “You get to have some fun before the season kicks off.”
Over the last four years, a popular trick play in the Lions’ Playbook has involved passes thrown to offensive linemen, including Penai Sewell and Taylor Decker.
To lighten things up during practice, Glenn caught Gobol on the offensive line. Did he see any potential in that?
“Definitely not,” Glenn said with a laugh. “It’s going to be a lot of work, that’s for sure.”
CB Michael Carter II was sidelined for four games last season, particularly the last three due to back injuries. He started rehabilitation in February, attending around three to four sessions each week.
“I’m feeling much better now,” Carter said. “I dedicated myself in the offseason, working hard during OTAs.”
The Jets have signed OG Marquis Hayes and undrafted rookie de Kingsley Jonathan while letting go of OG Zach Bailey and CB Tre.
