Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has high expectations heading into the 2024 season.
“I feel like we can win a championship, even a Super Bowl,” Gardner said. “We have the players. We have the coaches. We have everything we need. The training staff, everything we need to get to where we want to get to.”
Gardner said he felt the same way entering last season.
However, those high hopes ended in Week 1 when Aaron Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon.
But those hopes are now back with a healthy Rodgers and the improved roster the Jets hope to have.
Coach Robert Saleh is unfazed by the schedule, which includes six prime-time games over the first 11 weeks of the season.
“No response. Just accept them as they come,” he said. “When the schedule is released, there are things every team has to deal with with their schedule. There are some things we want to address.”
Saleh said in March that he wanted his team to be more under the radar this year.
In all these prime time games, nothing like that is happening.
“This is New York,” Saleh said. “There’s always excitement. It’s great to see us in that light. At the same time, if you don’t focus on the process, focus on the day-to-day work, and do your best, none of it means anything.”
There were reports that the Jets tried to hire someone above offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett this offseason.
Saleh declined to address the latest report, referring to comments he made in March saying it was not true.
Hackett said he felt Saleh believed in him and was involved in interviewing all offensive coaching candidates.
“This is what I want to say to you,” Mr. Hackett said. “I don’t know what those reports are, I don’t know where their sources came from. I know what happened to us. Good. We had a lot of conversations. . We needed to talk to different people. It’s very simple. It’s already been dealt with.
