Jets’ Sauce Gardner Critiques Refereeing After Loss to Dolphins
New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner didn’t hold back on his feelings regarding the officiating after the team’s setback against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.
In a 27-21 loss in Miami, the Jets struggled with three turnovers and 13 penalties. Gardner himself contributed to the woes, getting penalized for pass interference in the third quarter.
Speaking to reporters post-game, the star defensive back expressed doubts about some of the officiating decisions, saying, “I’m always watching football, and I don’t know if this is wrong, but I think we’re being held to a different standard because we aren’t winning.” He added that he’s observed winning teams get away with calls that the Jets seem to be penalized for.
Gardner also referenced a penalty from a recent game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, suggesting that a feeling of losing inevitably influences how calls are made. “It feels like we’re not winning. If we don’t win, these things happen,” he noted.
After Gardner’s remarks, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was asked about the controversial calls. He acknowledged that there were several curious decisions during the game and mentioned that the team would formally address specific calls with the league.
Glenn admitted, “The game didn’t feel easy to navigate, not the way we felt it should go, but that’s how it is.”
The Jets are now facing their first 0-4 start since 2020, a year when they ended with a 2-14 record. They have a challenging short week ahead as they prepare to take on the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.
