Sauce Gardner’s Shocking Trade Announcement
Just before the NFL trade deadline, Sauce Gardner shared a brief farewell message with New York Jets fans. “New York, it was real,” he posted, along with a green heart emoji.
His brother and agent, Allante, mentioned that Gardner was “stunned” by the trade. He added that they never anticipated such a move.
Shortly after his message, reports emerged confirming that the former No. 4 overall draft pick was headed to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for two first-round picks and wide receiver AD Mitchell.
At just 25 years old, Gardner had recently signed a lucrative four-year extension worth $120.4 million, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. “This is just the beginning,” he reflected on social media after the announcement, expressing gratitude to the Jets organization, his teammates, and fans.
Interestingly, this extension was finalized just a day after the Jets signed star wideout Garrett Wilson to a long-term deal, signaling an effort to build a strong young core as they move into a new era.
However, Gardner’s journey with the Jets came to an abrupt halt after more than three seasons, leaving a sense of disbelief surrounding the timing of the trade.
This season, he defended six passes and made 20 tackles, showcasing his skills on the field. As the Jets struggle with a dismal 1-7 record, it seems there may be more changes ahead before the trade deadline.
In addition to Gardner, reports indicated that defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was also traded to the Cowboys for a first-round pick, heightening the sense of urgency for the Jets as they navigate a difficult season.
Now, Gardner will join the Colts, who are leading the AFC South with a 7-2 record, in hopes of solidifying their playoff chances.
