Controversial Discussion on “The View”
On Thursday, Savannah Chrisley, known for her reality TV background, clashed with Sunny Hostin, a co-host on “The View,” during a heated discussion where Chrisley criticized Donald Trump, labeling him a “racist.”
Hostin didn’t hold back, asserting there was “no question” about Trump’s racism. In a twist, Chrisley, who has previously supported Trump, cited a controversial AI video that portrayed Barack and Michelle Obama unflatteringly but maintained that Trump himself isn’t racist. Hostin firmly disagreed.
“Donald Trump is a racist,” Hostin stated. “There’s no doubt about it. It’s important to face the truth. Just recently, he shared something on Truth Social depicting the Obama family in a derogatory way. That’s not okay.” She pointed out that no monkeys actually appear in “The Lion King,” emphasizing the absurdity of the comparison.
In response, Chrisley stated, “That post was made by a staff member. It wasn’t Trump himself who posted it.”
The AI-generated video showed Democrats as animals, with Trump likened to a lion, accompanied by the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Trump later claimed he didn’t realize the depiction of the Obamas was offensive until it was too late.
Chrisley defended Trump’s record, citing that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) received permanent funding during his presidency, arguing that this demonstrates he is not racist. She also highlighted the challenges faced by minority supporters of Trump.
“For the first time in history, HBCUs got permanent funding under Trump,” Chrisley argued. “Though fundraising for it had started before he took office.” Hostin challenged her with a memory of Trump’s controversial post about the Obamas.
Interestingly, Trump captured 21% of the Black male vote in the 2024 election—reportedly the highest percentage for that demographic—and garnered 54% of the Latino male vote, surpassing Kamala Harris, according to NBC News exit polls.
During this episode, Chrisley stepped in as guest host while regular co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin was on maternity leave. Notably, Trump pardoned Chrisley’s parents, Todd and Julie, in 2022 after they had been convicted of fraud and tax evasion.
