Savannah Guthrie, a devoted woman, asks for prayers for a mother who is missing

Authorities are actively searching for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC’s “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, who went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, believed to be a case of kidnapping over the weekend.

Savannah, known to speak openly about her faith, is now seeing that faith reflected in her family’s urgent call for prayers. On Tuesday, she shared an image on social media that simply said, “Please pray.”

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison full of love and hope. We believe in goodness, humanity, and above all, we believe in God,” she wrote, emphasizing her family’s deep concern for her mother. “Thank you for raising your prayers with us for our beloved mother, our beloved Nancy, a woman of deep faith and a good and faithful servant. Please join us and believe with us that she will be lifted up by them in this moment. We need you.”

In the emotional post, Savannah quoted a verse from Isaiah: “‘He keeps in perfect peace those whose hearts trust in him.’ An eternal verse for all of us. Take her home,” she concluded.

In light of this situation, E! News host Jason Kennedy shared a previous interview with Savannah, where she discussed her grief after the loss of her father and how crucial her faith was during that time. “I can’t lose my father and God at the same time. I can’t afford that,” she recalled saying to friends. During that challenging period, she reflected on her lifelong journey to comprehend her faith and how God operates in a world filled with suffering.

“It’s been a lifelong journey to understand who God is, how He interacts with the world, and what it means to live in a broken world,” Savannah explained. In her heartfelt inquiry, she asked, “God, where are you? What are you doing? Everything happens for a reason. Is it? What is the reason?”

Moreover, Savannah has published children’s books in the past, like “Mostly What God Does is Love You,” aimed at teaching kids about God’s love through nature. Her past reflections—like those shared during her mother’s 80th birthday memorial—show the respect and admiration she has for Nancy, describing her mother as a woman of unwavering integrity.

Currently, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The circumstances of her disappearance remain unclear, though Sheriff Chris Nanos has stated that law enforcement is treating the situation seriously. As of now, investigators do not have substantial leads or suspects in her case.

“We don’t know where she is,” Nanos said, explaining they are starting the investigation from the last known location of Nancy Guthrie and expanding outward from there.
