Savannah Guthrie to Return to “Today” Show After Mother’s Abduction

Savannah Guthrie is set to return to NBC’s “Today” show on Monday for the first time since her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was abducted from her home in Arizona over two months ago.

On February 1st, news broke about Nancy’s disappearance, prompting Savannah to leave the show abruptly and head to Tucson to be with her family.

Throughout the ordeal, Guthrie—who is a familiar face in morning television—had expressed uncertainty about how she would handle her return but confirmed that she would be back. It’s, well, a complicated feeling, really.

“This is a place of so much joy and brightness that it’s hard to imagine doing that,” she reflected in her first interview after her mother went missing.

She emphasized the challenge: “I can’t come back and try to be a different person. But I can’t afford not to go back because I’m family,” she said.

Meanwhile, she told Hoda Kotb, “I want to smile, and that’s what happens.” Yet, she added, “It’s fun to be there, I say that when it’s not.” There’s a sense of, you know, mixed emotions surrounding this whole situation.

Just a day later, she shared a heartfelt message hinting at the struggles she faces, mentioning a sense of disappointment with God amid these tough times. “It’s a moment of deep disappointment…a sense of complete abandonment,” she admitted. It’s common, I guess, for many to feel such emotions swing wildly during crisis moments.

Nancy, it appears, was taken from her Tucson home during the early hours of February 1st, with unsettling security footage showing a masked figure lurking around the front door. The investigation, sadly, hasn’t drawn much attention recently, and leads seem to be diminishing.

In a bid for answers, the Guthrie family has put forward a $1 million reward for information that could help recover Nancy.
