Savannah Guthrie seemed to hint that her time on the “Today” show may be coming to an end after Hoda Kotb announced her departure from the morning show.
“We are dear friends and we have a lot of similarities,” she said. told Us Weekly The co-anchor spoke about her departure Thursday at Project Healthy Minds' 2nd Annual World Mental Health Day Gala in New York City.
“We're basically at the same stage in our lives,” she added, apparently hinting at a possible exit for herself.
Page Six has asked Guthrie's representatives for clarification on her comments.
Guthrie, 52, has been with NBC since 2007, when he became a legal correspondent and appeared on “Today” and “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.”
From there, she became NBC's White House correspondent and hosted “The Daily Rundown” from 2010 to 2011.
She joined the Today staff in 2012 as co-host for the show's third hour.
The potential foreshadowing of her future on the morning newscast came after a source close to the show told Page Six that “no one at NBC wanted Savannah to leave.”
“If the bosses have their way, she will stay here for the rest of her life,” the source added. “She is the beating heart of Today. She has a lot of support.”
The TV source also noted that “there were rumors that Savannah was planning her own exit in 2025,” but Kotub's announcement “makes that nearly impossible.”
Guthrie spoke about Kotb's departure from Page Six at Thursday's World Mental Health Day Gala, saying she had mixed emotions when she heard the big news.
“It's complicated because I'm so happy for her and so proud of her as a friend because she follows her heart and it's a sign of great confidence in herself and her future. And it's not because she knows what's going to happen, it's because she believes in herself and trusts her instincts,'' she explained.
“As her friend, I love it. As her morning partner, I'm going to miss her,” she added.
“I'm really, really going to miss her. We all do, you know? She means the world to me.”
But Guthrie seemed grateful that Kotb will remain at NBC after he leaves “Today.”
“We're a family and she's not going to go too far. She's going to stay at NBC. You'll see her,” she said.
Kotb's next professional move is unknown.
Sources told Page Six ahead of Kotb's announcement that she wants to spend more time with her daughters Haley, 7, and Hope, 4.
“While this is heartbreaking for everyone, Ms. Hoda wants to be able to walk her children to school,” they elaborated.
