Savannah Guthrie Appeals for Help in Mother’s Abduction Case
On Monday, Savannah Guthrie, host of the Today Show, shared a heartfelt video on social media. She urged her mother’s captors to come forward, nearly six months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona. As the investigation remains without any leads, Savannah expressed her concerns on Instagram, revealing there have been no updates since her mother’s abduction in the early hours of February 1st.
In her message directed at the kidnappers, Guthrie stated, “We are in a never-ending nightmare. Please. Please. Make the right choice. Please help me find her. Please tell me where to look for her.” She emphasized that it’s not too late for them to act, asking for assistance to end the distressing situation.
“Please help us end this situation,” she continued. “I believe that for all of us, no matter where we go or what we do, there is always a way back. Please make the right choices.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the case remains active, but no significant developments have emerged. They have yet to identify a suspect and are still analyzing DNA and digital evidence, collaborating with the FBI for further insights.
Following Nancy’s disappearance, several ransom notes surfaced. One note, sent to a Tucson TV station in June, claimed she “died shortly after being taken” and was “now buried in the wild.” Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of this message. Jason Pack, a former FBI hostage negotiator, noted that the tone of the memo—specifically the apology included—was unusual. “Influential people don’t apologize. They demand it,” he remarked.
In February, the FBI released footage of a masked individual tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera at the time of her kidnapping. The suspect is described as being of average build, around 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, and carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack. Gloves discovered about two miles from her home were later found to be unrelated to the case. Savannah Guthrie has also increased the reward for information to $1.2 million.
This plea for help emerges as Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos faces scrutiny over claims that his office sidelined federal agents early in the investigation. Reports state that he dismissed the FBI’s requests for evidence processing, opting to send forensic work to a Florida lab instead. There has been conflicting information regarding Nanos’ cooperation with the FBI, but he maintains that his department is committed to resolving the case “100%.”
