today’s show Co-host Savannah Guthrie shared a video on Monday asking for help in locating her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie.
“We are in a moment of despair as we begin another week of this nightmare,” she expressed.
Guthrie, appearing alone, looked understandably pale and weary after eight days filled with anguish.
According to police, Nancy was taken from her home in Tucson early Sunday morning last week, shortly after being dropped off by her son-in-law around 9:45 p.m. the previous Saturday. Since then, there have been no sightings of her.
Authorities reported that Nancy’s blood and personal items, which someone likely took without her consent, were discovered at the scene.
It has been noted that Nancy has health issues and relies on specific medications, which were left behind, along with her Apple Watch linked to her pacemaker.
In the days that followed, the Guthrie family has received ransom requests, some amounting to millions of dollars, yet no evidence has emerged to confirm that Nancy is alive.
Nancy’s three children (Savannah, her brother, and sister) have released several videos in which they agree to pay the ransom. Reports indicate that there’s an important deadline set for today, Monday at 5 p.m.
In a video shared earlier today, just hours before this deadline, Savannah expressed gratitude for the “prayers and love that we’ve felt – my sister, my brother, and I, and my mom.” She believes that these prayers have provided her with strength during this dark time.
“We believe that our mother is still there,” she added.
Savannah also commended law enforcement for their dedicated efforts to locate her mother. She urged the public to assist.
“I’m here to ask you, not just to pray. Wherever you are, if you notice anything unusual, please contact the authorities. We’re in a desperate situation and really need your help.”
The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
The video concluded with a poignant plea: “Please. Please bring her home. We need you. She needs you. Everyone.”
