Savannah Guthrie Returns to “Today” Amid Ongoing Search for Missing Mother
On Monday, Savannah Guthrie made her much-anticipated return to the “Today” show after a two-month break, focusing largely on news while her mother, Nancy, remains missing. This marks 64 days since Nancy disappeared from her home in Arizona.
Just after 8:30 a.m. ET, about 90 minutes into the show, Guthrie stepped outside to greet the enthusiastic crowd gathered at Rockefeller Center. Visibly emotional, she expressed gratitude, stating, “These signs are so beautiful. You all have been so beautiful. I’ve received so many letters and you’ve been so kind. My whole family feels it, and I feel your prayers. Thank you so much.”
While Guthrie thanked fans wearing shirts that said “Welcome Home Savannah,” she refrained from mentioning her mother’s name during the broadcast.
On February 1, Nancy Guthrie went missing, prompting Savannah’s absence from NBC’s flagship morning program. The nationwide search for her mother has captured significant media attention but has unfortunately produced few leads.
Guthrie opened her segment with a lighthearted take on current events, touching on topics like the conflict in Iran, President Trump’s social media activity on Easter, rising gas prices, and the Artemis II space mission. “Good morning. Welcome to Today on Monday morning. It’s great to start your week with us. It’s great to be home,” she said as she kicked off the show.
With co-anchor Craig Melvin, she added, “Now, ready or not, let’s do the news.” Guthrie also shared her appreciation for the “love” shown by her viewers, commenting on the beautiful signs they had made. “I can’t wait to meet them and give them all hugs,” she said, reflecting on the overwhelming support she’s received.
Nancy Guthrie is believed to have been taken from her home against her will, last seen around 10 p.m. the night before her disappearance, after being dropped off by her son-in-law.
During a past emotional interview with Hoda Kotb on “Today,” Savannah discussed her mother’s disappearance. Investigators and the family continue to urge the public for any information. To date, over $1.2 million in rewards has been offered in connection with the case, with $1 million from the Guthrie family alone. They are appealing to anyone who might have seen something to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
