Our moderation team receives many questions about political ads on SB Nation's team community. Previously, Vox Media did not allow political ads. This policy was amended in April 2023, and Vox Media now only allows ads purchased directly from Vox Media within certain guidelines to include “candidate- and party-specific ads, and issue- or advocacy-related ads.” Advertisements are allowed.
Vox Media does not accept political ads that:
- be misleading, disseminate false information, or make any deceptive or false representations;
- incite violence, threaten, harass or intimidate;
- Things that promote discrimination and inequality
- Serving or supporting individuals or organizations that repeatedly or consistently engage in conduct that violates our advertising policies.
- It is not clearly identified who paid for the advertisement.
- Does not clearly state whether it has been approved by the candidate and/or organization
- failure to comply with all applicable federal election laws, FEC regulations, and other applicable state and local laws and regulations;
Vox Media reserves the right to verify the original funding source of any advertisement and to reject any advertisement in its sole discretion.
If a candidate, political party, or PAC purchases an ad directly with Vox Media that is not disqualified by any of the points listed above, that ad may appear on Vox Media sites, including SB Nation's communities.
We will keep comments on this article open so we can answer any questions you may have about this policy or the ads you see in the SB Nation community. Comments are moderated according to our Community Guidelines. Guidelines can be found here.
