SB Nation NFL mock draft: Chiefs get an absolute steal of a WR at No. 31

The Chiefs once again went to the Super Bowl behind manager Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But this was probably the most memorable championship in recent memory if you were a Chiefs fan.

Kansas City kept Molly for most restrictions as the Eagles physically controlled the chief until the end. Philadelphia defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has shown the NFL at least one way to win this Chief Steam’s current iteration by winning one of the performances.

So where does Mahomes and Co. go from here? Will they try to counter what the Eagles are building by becoming a much more physically impressive team in the trench? Now that Kelse is nearing retirement, how about continuing to build crime for the future? Are they going to continue with the same plan that keeps them successful for all these years, or will they decide to pivot towards a new identity?

Well, if you’re Arrowhead Pride Caleb James, you’re OK with sticking to the status quo.

On the 31st pick of SB Nation Community Mock Draft, James has chosen Missouri receiver Luther as a new member of the Chiefs.

31.) Kansas City Chiefs: Luther’s Burden, WR, MO.

James: At one point, the burden seemed to be a consensus top 10 choice, but stocks fell as character issues and questions about what role he would play on the NFL team approached draft day. That said, the Chiefs and Andy Reid’s relationship with Mizzo should be comfortable calling them on draft day to evoke Baden’s name, and his skill set would make him perfectly match the Chiefs’ offense. The burden is a versatile competitor and thrives with a slot-rich look with the Chiefs’ movements. The burden adds another layer to the budding Chiefs wide receiver group with explosiveness and contested catch capabilities.

analysis: The Chief is able to land one of the most dynamic receivers in the draft despite being a selection at No. 31 all along. Depending on who you ask, Luther is the third, fourth or fifth receiver in this draft class. But playing with Patrick Mahomes soon raises the floor as an NFL receiver, so that’s ultimately not important. In this scenario, the burden will have the opportunity to play alongside the greatest ever Travisquels, second-year wideout Xavier Wahty and veteran Hollywood Brown. That’s a lot of attention that is taken away from most snap burdens that just open the doors further to make an impact in the first year. Knowing Andy Reed, he also has one list of plays to ensure that the burden hits the ground and he can do his best for his new team.

The remaining 5 players:

  1. Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio
  2. Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo
  3. Grey Sabell, IOL, North Dakota
  4. Nic Scourton, Edge, Texas A&M
  5. Demetrius Knight Jr., LB, South Carolina

Luther’s burden finally falls off the board and he definitely goes to the best place for the rookie wideout. Ohio’s Emeka Egbuka is currently at the top of our best remaining boards. South Carolina linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. was pushed into the top five.

The Real-life Super Bowl Champion Eagles are on the watch!
