Scarlett Johansson Backs Woody Allen
Scarlett Johansson, at 41, has come forward to express her support for Woody Allen, who is now 90 years old.
In a recent interview with the Daily Telegraph, she mentioned it’s “hard to know” if any consequences have come from backing him.
“I’m not entirely sure what the fallout looks like, but my mom has always told me to stay true to myself. It’s about integrity and standing firm on your beliefs,” she said.
Johansson has worked with Allen on three occasions—specifically in “Match Point,” “Scoop,” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”
However, Allen’s reputation in Hollywood has diminished significantly. This change largely stems from allegations made by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, who accused him of sexual abuse during her childhood. While these accusations were first brought to light in 1992, they gained renewed attention during the #MeToo movement.
Dylan’s brother, Ronan Farrow, a journalist, has been vocal about supporting his sister. In a 2016 piece for the Hollywood Reporter, he articulated his struggles to separate his career from his family’s turbulent history. He expressed, “I believe my sister. This conviction has always been present, even dating back to when I was five and recognized her unusual behavior around our father.” He also noted that, as a lawyer and reporter, he found her claims credible.
Despite the controversies, Allen remains active in filmmaking. His latest project is the French movie “Coup De Chance,” released in 2023.
Johansson also shared her thoughts about the industry and personal growth during her interview. “I think it’s crucial to know when it’s not your time to speak. It’s not about silencing yourself; it’s just about recognizing the right moments to express yourself,” she reflected.
Additionally, she touched on her legal battle with Disney in 2021 regarding the streaming release of “Black Widow.” “It would be wonderful to see more support from our peers on issues affecting the entire industry,” she noted.
While she didn’t specifically comment on whether her stance regarding Allen has affected community support, she concluded on a hopeful note, stating, “More voices always help!”
