‘Scary experience’: Woman finds horrifying cellar room not advertised in Airbnb rental

In one of the more bizarre travel experiences, a Kansas City family discovered a dark basement while staying at someone's Chicago-based Airbnb. A short clip of the room went viral on TikTok.

Zena Habashi decided to rent a basement apartment in Chicago in December, but quickly noticed that there was something fishy about it.she said newsweek When she first booked the space, some of the apartment's doors weren't advertised.

“While getting ready for bed, my cousin and I noticed a light on in one of the locked rooms,” Habashi said. “We decided to try and open it. … I was able to get a fork and open the door. That's when I saw it.”

A guest posted an 18-second video clip of a strange dungeon that appeared to have half-full trash bags and cardboard boxes inside.

I kept hearing the noise so I left the next morning 😣 More to come, part 2?? #scary #ghost #airbnb

new york post report Habashi said he found a “locked wooden door” and a “chain” lying “on the ground.” There was also a wooden door leading to the back of the building, but she decided not to investigate further.

The TikTok post included the caption, “Savages??” — appears to be a reference to the 2022 horror film about a woman who discovers that a stranger is already living in the rental home she booked.

“I had seen 'The Barbarian' a month before and before we arrived we were joking around, 'Imagine something like Barbarian happening!' The room felt like a movie! ” Habashi said.

Habashi posted two clips of the footage on social media platforms, where they received more than 10 million views.

One user said, “This is literally a 'Barbarian' movie,” while another said, “I watched 'The Barbarian' and I know how it ends.”

Another user praised Habashi's decision to stay overnight despite the creepy passageway, writing, “If it were me, I would have left that place right away. Someone or something could have gotten into your room from there.” “Just imagine what that would be like,” he added.

The family heard a “clicking sound” and decided to contact the owner and Airbnb. “The door was blocked by a table, and there was a rolled up towel under the handle, so I couldn't move the handle,” Habashi told Newsweek.

“We couldn't sleep. We stayed up until the morning and kept hearing the noise, so before we left we decided to take a video of it and it unexpectedly went viral. ”

Airbnb offered the family a refund for what they described as a “horrifying experience.”

However, Airbnb had not received any previous complaints about the apartment. According to the report, it received good reviews with a rating of 4.84.

“The property is advertised as a basement apartment, and the other space accessed is part of the basement,” an Airbnb representative told Newsweek.

“Our customer service team supported the customer's concerns at the time and assisted with a refund and alternative accommodation.”

It is unclear who owns the apartment or what the basement is used for.
