Scary footage of a tourist boat sinking near Bali's coast

Disturbing footage shows individuals desperately trying to survive after a tourist boat with 89 people capsized near Bali.

The vessel had just left Lembangan village and encountered a massive wave around 4:30 PM on Wednesday.

In videos recorded by passengers, people can be seen kicking at the ferry windows in their attempt to escape.

A nearby boat throws ropes to those scrambling out, with cries and screams echoing in the background.

Other footage reveals the boat turned completely onto its side, with passengers fighting to stay afloat.

The ship, named Tanis, was a recently loaded 125-seat vessel heading towards Sanur when the incident occurred.

Reports indicate a huge wave struck the boat from behind, causing it to capsize.

Out of the 89 individuals onboard, 77 were foreign tourists, while 12 were Indonesian. Witnesses hurried to assist those trapped inside as the boat tilted and sank.

Fortunately, a quick-thinking observer helped evacuate passengers as nearby boats arrived, some of which had life jackets available for those in distress.

By 6:30 PM local time, all passengers had been rescued, and thankfully, there were no reported fatalities or serious injuries.

As a precaution, divers have been dispatched to search for the submerged wreckage and ensure that no one remains unaccounted for.

After the incident, most passengers opted to stay in Nusa Lembongan, while a couple continued on to Sanur Harbor.

It’s noted that the Tanis had been operating for just three months prior to this incident.

This tragic event comes shortly after an Australian woman lost her life in a similar boating accident in Bali.

Anna Bright, a 39-year-old accountant from Melbourne, died when her snorkeling boat capsized after hitting a large wave.

Her boat, which had 13 people aboard including 11 Australians, was en route to the popular Nusa Penida Island when it was overwhelmed by rough waters.

In light of recent events, the government’s Smartraveller website has updated its warnings, advising Australians to exercise heightened caution.

The site highlights various concerns, including fatalities, dangerous boating conditions, and issues with strict entry regulations.

Moreover, it notes that many Australians have encountered dangers in coastal areas due to turbulent seas and strong currents at popular beaches, specifically in Bali.
