Scary New Series From M. Night Shyamalan, ‘Caddo Lake,’ Feels Beautifully Disturbing

HBO Max released the trailer for upcoming horror movie “Caddo Lake” Thursday from visionary M. Night Shyamalan.

The trailer for “Caddo Lake” comes to us right in time for spooky season, though it doesn’t really give much away about the actual story. One presumes there is a lake involved somehow.

” … when an eight-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, forever altering a broken family’s history,” Deadline wrote in their coverage of the trailer. While this sounds pretty miserable, the trailer does suggest this story will be more spooky than sad.

The writers, Celine Held and Logan George, came up with the story after seeing a photograph of the real Caddo Lake online, Deadline reported. The 27,472-acre body of water sits along Big Cypress Creek, split roughly between Texas and Louisiana, according to Texas Parks & Wildlife.

The lake is not without nonfiction tragedy. In 2023, a man was found dead in the lake, suspected to be the victim of a hit-and-run, according to KTBS. Shortly thereafter, a man was found dead, partially hanging out of his boat on the lake, KSLA reported.

The series will hit HBO on Oct. 10.
