Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff sparred with special counsel Robert Hur during a controversial House hearing Tuesday, and the California congressman played politics with a report on President Biden’s handling of classified documents. He accused Mr. Hur of doing something wrong, but this provoked a backlash from Mr. Hur.
“I want to go back to my opening statement where I said in the report that I did not disrespect the president, but of course I did disrespect the president,” Schiff said during Tuesday’s hearing.
“You belittled him in words that you should have known had maximum political impact. You understood that your report would be made public, right?”
“Based on the attorney general’s comments, I understand that the attorney general has committed to making my report as public as possible in line with legal policy and legal requirements,” Huo responded.

Schiff also said that Herr called Biden “an old man with a bad memory.”
“Congressmen, you could theoretically have written a report that omitted the reference to the president’s memory,” Hoare explained. “However, it would have been an incomplete and inadequate report and would not have reflected my analysis.”
Mr. Schiff continued to press Mr. Hugh, accusing him of knowing his language would cause a “political flare-up,” but Mr. Hur said that “politics played no role” in the investigation.
“Even though you said what you wrote was deeply detrimental to the president’s interests and not political, you still understood that,” Schiff said. “You should understand the impact of your words. Beyond the specifics of a particular document, there are very general ones, a matter of your own personal bias, the president’s subjective opinion, ”

Schiff then tried to discuss the allegations against former President Trump, but Herr, who is a registered Republican at the time, returned and revisited the idea that his report was influenced by politics. Ta.
“I need to address something that you suggested in a previous question, which is that I need to provide another version of my report that is suitable for public viewing,” Herr said. . “That’s nowhere in the rules. I was supposed to write a comprehensive and thorough confidential report.”
“What do the rules say, Mr. Ho?” Schiff said. “The rules state that if you refuse to prosecute, you must not do anything that would be detrimental to the subject of the investigation, and you must not add language that you know will be helpful to a political campaign.” You weren’t born yesterday. You knew exactly what you were doing. It was a choice.”
“You certainly didn’t need to include that wording. You could have just said that on a letter from the university. The president didn’t remember. There’s nothing more common. You know this. Neither do I. I know this: Nothing.” When asked about an event that happened years ago, it is common for witnesses of any age to respond, “I don’t remember.” In fact, they are instructed by their lawyers to do so if they have any questions about it. You understood your choice: “It was a political choice. It was the wrong choice. Mr. Speaker, I stand back.”
During the next cross-examination, Mr. Herr returned to speak to Mr. Schiff.

“What you are suggesting, Congressman, is that I will shape, sanitize and omit some of my briefings to the attorney general, some of my reasoning, for political reasons,” Hoare said.
“No,” Sif retorted. “I suggest you don’t produce a report for political reasons. That’s what you did.”
“That didn’t happen, Congressman, that didn’t happen,” Hoare retorted before the next question began.
