Schwarzenegger: ‘Climate change dialogue’ not going to work

Actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) said the traditional “climate change dialogue” no longer works, especially when it comes to highly polluting countries.

Schwarzenegger discussed clean energy and climate change solutions with MSNBC’s Jonathan Lemire on Thursday, when Lemire asked the “Terminator” star how he plans to reach out to bigger polluters like China and India to warn them about the effects of climate change.

“Well, I think there are always obstacles,” Schwarzenegger responded, later adding, “I think it all has to do with communication.”

The former governor, who is also a passionate advocate of physical activity, said there was a global movement for fitness and healthy lifestyles in the past and now there are gyms in every school, hotel and police station. The same needs to happen with the climate, he argued.

“We want to do the same thing here. I don’t think the climate change dialogue works. I think that’s the dialogue that’s been used for the last few decades,” he said. Highlighted by Mediaite. “I think we should address it directly for what it is, which is pollution.”

“We want to eliminate pollution. We need to get that message out there,” Schwarzenegger continued.

Schwarzenegger has previously called climate change his “number one issue,” and during his time in office he promoted clean air and energy policies.

In 2021, he criticized world leaders who are slowing down climate action in order to protect their economies, calling them “liars” and “fools.”
