Schweizer on Trump’s Meeting with Xi Jinping

In a recent segment on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Peter Schweizer, who leads the Government Accountability Institute and is the author of “The Invisible Coup,” expressed his view that President Donald Trump possesses leverage over Chinese President Xi Jinping following Xi’s recent visit to the U.S.

Schweizer agreed with host Laura Ingraham, asserting that Trump indeed holds the “upper hand” in this dynamic.

Ingraham raised a point, noting that many on the Left seem to have crafted a new narrative around the midterms, suggesting that Trump is, quote, cozying up to Xi and other authoritarian leaders. She then asked Schweizer for his insights on the matter given his expertise on the relationship between the U.S. and China.

Responding to this, Schweizer said, “You hit the nail on the head, Laura. Trump is the one who has the upper hand here. Consider this: when President Xi came to the U.S. for their meeting, he had just signed off on the detainment of two members of China’s Central Military Commission, which is crucial for China’s political landscape. In fact, it’s even more significant than leading the Communist Party or being the president. Over the past couple of years, Xi has removed six of the eight members, labeling them as politically unreliable.”

He added, “There have been 45 military generals in China who have disappeared recently due to similar concerns about their political reliability, and as you noted, their economic situation isn’t looking great. They’re not disclosing as much economic data as they used to. So yes, I believe Trump holds the upper hand, and I think he navigated it effectively. It’s important to be respectful and maintain communication without giving too much away. I thought it was a brilliant move for Trump to highlight aspects of our Constitution, specifically the First and Second Amendments before Xi departed. This sends a powerful message regarding the clash of ideas, which felt like a strong finish to their meeting.”
