ESPN has acquired NFL networks and other media assets, including the popular RedZone channels from the NFL. In return, the league will receive a 10% stake in the sports network. This deal was officially announced on Tuesday, but it has stirred some anxiety among football fans regarding potential changes.
One constant seems to be the host of RedZone, Scott Hanson. He has been with the channel since 2009 and took to social media to reassure viewers about his role in the upcoming 2025 season.
Hanson confirmed that he will continue his normal hosting duties and expressed his optimism about the collaboration between ESPN and the NFL. He shared on X, “It’s official. (And for those wondering: Yes, I still host Redzone.) I’ve been fired for a great season! I’m optimistic about this new partnership!”
Over the years, Hanson has gained popularity, partly thanks to his memorable catchphrase. His previous contract with NFL media ended at the close of the last season, but he has since negotiated a new one that allows him to return for the 2025 season.
As per the agreement, the NFL will still own, operate, and produce programming for the RedZone channel from its studios in Southern California. Although ESPN will manage cable and satellite distribution, the league will maintain rights to distribute it on digital platforms.
ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro stated, “Combining these NFL media assets with ESPN’s reach and innovation creates a top destination for football fans. ESPN and the NFL are redefining how fans engage with the game anytime, anywhere. This deal will set the stage for even more robust products as they prepare for ESPN’s digital future and new consumer services.”
The NFL network is expected to be part of ESPN’s upcoming consumer streaming service, which will launch this fall, offering access to ESPN’s various professional and college sports.
