Clash Over Medicaid for Illegal Immigrants
On Wednesday, Republican strategist Scott Jennings engaged in a heated discussion with former Hillary Clinton aide Karen Finney about illegal immigrants benefiting from Medicaid.
The federal government experienced a partial shutdown at 12:01 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday after the Senate couldn’t pass the Stop Gap funding bill the day before. During this exchange, Jennings and Finney disputed claims surrounding the Medicaid enrollment of illegal immigrants after Finney asserted that such individuals did not receive Medicaid support.
“Who do you think covers the costs when someone goes to the emergency room? It’s a Medicaid emergency program,” Jennings pointed out during a CNN segment. Kaitlan Collins, the show’s host, tried to mediate, but Jennings maintained, “You’re mixing up the issues.”
Finney countered, insisting, “No, we’re not, Scott.” However, Jennings repeated, “You’re the one confusing these matters.”
Finney criticized Jennings by saying, “You’re aware that it’s not a popular stance, so you’re misleading the American public about this.” Jennings responded by differentiating between subsidies, stating, “The issues surrounding Medicaid and Obamacare are distinct.”
“While negotiations around grants may occur, the Democrats appear intent on reversing Republican reforms to Medicaid,” Jennings elaborated. “I just don’t understand why there’s such anger. For a long time, the Democrats have claimed that allowing illegal immigrants to access Medicaid is beneficial.”
Vice President JD Vance emphasized on Fox News that Democrats aim to revive a Biden-era initiative that he said entrusted taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants, a program that was eliminated during Trump’s second term.
In a confrontational interview on Tuesday, California Democrat Maxine Waters seemed to confirm that her party was focused on securing health benefits for illegal immigrants.
Democrats are seeking over $1 trillion in funding for various progressive initiatives, including healthcare and restoring public broadcasting funds that were misallocated in July.
Following the exchange with Finney, Jennings noted that Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) had detained some individuals who were previously registered to vote in Maryland. “They can’t register to vote, yet they somehow managed to run the Des Moines school system in Maryland!” Jennings exclaimed, expressing disbelief.
He added, “You keep insisting these issues won’t arise, but then they do.”
