Scott Jennings Clashes With CNN’s Abby Phillip Over Trump-Epstein Report

Political Commentary on Trump’s Connection to Epstein

CNN’s Scott Jennings had a heated discussion with Abby Phillip on “CNN Newsnight” regarding a report linking President Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein. In May, Trump was reportedly informed that his name appeared in various files connected to dubious financial dealings, although the White House has denied these claims. Phillip challenged Jennings by questioning why Trump would “own” Epstein.

Jennings responded by asking about the authenticity of the claims made by the Wall Street Journal, stating, “What do you own? What the Wall Street Journal calls unverified hearsay.” He went on to mention that the term “hearsay” has specific legal implications, expressing some confusion over its application in this context.

The White House, through communications director Steve Chen, dismissed the report as “fake news,” asserting, “This is another fake news story, like the previous one by the Wall Street Journal.”

As the conversation continued, Jennings urged Phillip to consider the implications of these claims, questioning why Trump should be compelled to “own” something that he doesn’t trust. He noted that The Washington Post had inquired into the matter, saying, “If there is something, we’ll know.” Jennings seemed to imply that unverified hearsay shouldn’t be the basis for public discussion.

On Friday, Trump declared he had filed a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch, following an article that hinted at personal connections tied to financial figures on his birthday. Trump previously suggested that Epstein’s victims’ lawyers had brought up allegations regarding an incident involving a minor at a Florida property.

Bradley Edwards, an attorney for some of Epstein’s victims, described Trump as cooperative in a 2018 video, recalling how Trump was the only one willing to discuss the matter openly. Edwards stated, “Let’s just talk… the information he gave was very helpful and showed nothing that indicated he was involved.”

Epstein maintained a wide network of connections, having mingled with various celebrities and politicians over the years, including Lex Wexner, Woody Allen, and Prince Andrew.
