Scott Jennings Criticizes 'Public Health System' on CNN

Republican Strategist Critiques Public Health System

On a recent CNN panel, Republican strategist Scott Jennings strongly criticized the nation’s public health framework, asserting that the government’s approach during the COVID-19 pandemic “deserves to be turned inside out.” This comment came amid a wave of instability at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where Director Susan Monarez rejected an attempt to oust her, leading to the resignation of four senior officials.

During his appearance on “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, Jennings shifted the fault away from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., emphasizing that the real issue lies within the public health bureaucracy itself.

Jennings declared, “The reason we’re here is not because of Kennedy. The problem is that the public health regime needs a thorough overhaul after COVID.” He urged the government to carry out ongoing investigations into vaccines and public health guidelines, pointing out that officials frequently provide information that later proves to be incorrect.

“I do think it’s reasonable for the government to continuously evaluate what we’re doing,” he said. “Sometimes we discover that what we told the American people turned out to be false.” He mentioned ongoing investigations, particularly regarding vaccines and food safety, which are critical components of Kennedy’s agenda that have gained traction among the public.

Jennings also highlighted rising skepticism toward the COVID vaccine, reflecting a broader distrust of health authorities. He pointed out that only 23% of adults and a mere 13% of children received the shot last year, indicating that many Americans are starting to make their choices about vaccination.

Specifically referencing the COVID vaccine, he remarked, “There are valid questions about whether it should have been mandatory, especially after the emergency designation was lifted.” These figures suggest that public sentiment is shifting significantly.

Recent developments hint at more changes at the CDC, including the abrupt cancellation of an agencywide call, as reported by the Washington Post. This news preceded Monarez’s confirmation by the Senate and followed a tragic shooting at CDC headquarters that resulted in the death of a police officer.
