Scott Jennings, a host on the Salem Radio Network, faced backlash from Democrats after discussing the recent incident involving the alleged assassin of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk. The accused, Tyler Robinson, allegedly attempted to harm Kirk during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University where attendees were engaged in a debate.
During a podcast episode, Jennings highlighted remarks by former President Donald Trump, who referred to a notable leftist politician as “fascist.” Jennings directed some pointed questions at Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dan Goldman, Jamie Raskin, and Eric Swalwell. He effectively asked, “What could have led Tyler Robinson to think that Charlie Kirk and conservatives are fascists out to destroy America?” He expressed skepticism about the influences that might have shaped Robinson’s view.
“It’s something we may never really know,” Jennings remarked with a hint of sarcasm.
This week, Harris intensified his criticism of Trump as the 2024 presidential election approaches, labeling him as a serious threat to democracy. He described Trump as “unstable,” reiterating this in a CNN appearance. The video montage featured several other prominent left-leaning figures, including MSNBC’s Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow, and legal analyst Elie Mystal.
Jennings reflected on the political landscape, noting how, over the last decade, many Americans have distanced themselves from the Democratic Party. He suggested that a narrative has taken root in media circles, painting Republicans and conservatives as fascists. He seemed to argue that this rhetoric has implications—if you support conservative ideologies, you’re somehow branded as wanting to dismantle the Constitution and the country.
“All conservative views are steeped in hatred and violence,” Jennings commented, indicating frustrations with the current political discourse.
In the past, Trump has survived attempts on his life, which he faced during his presidential campaign in 2024, notably at a rally in Pennsylvania and while golfing in Florida. There was also a prior incident in 2016 when a man attempted to shoot Trump at a campaign event.
Jennings shared his perspective on the disdain directed toward Charlie Kirk, asserting that those who oppose him often wield their views as weapons. He emphasized that the arguments made by Democrats are sometimes weaponized in more dangerous ways. “The assailant drew from the rhetoric pushed by Democrats nightly,” Jennings claimed.
Past TPUSA events have faced violent protests, with one incident at Dartmouth College prompting security concerns that led to a shift to a virtual format. In another example, an event planned by the TPUSA chapter at Lee Summit West High School in 2022 was disrupted by left-wing students. Further, a TPUSA event featuring Riley Gaines was interrupted with violence in 2023 at San Francisco State University.
